MRASP is...

The Mason-Rice Afterschool Program is a safe, nurturing, fun environment for children.  By actively collaborating with families and school staff, we have built a supportive "neighborhood of the 21st Century" that meets the needs of an increasing number of students K through 5.  We are a  private, non-profit, parent cooperative and have been serving the families of the Mason-Rice community since 1980.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide high quality out-of-school time programming for school-age children and to support families.

Services Provided:

* Quality, on-site program, open from 12:30-6 every school day

* Professional staff - creative, fun, and nurturing

* Effective coordination & communication with Mason-Rice staff

* February and April school vacation week full-day programs, Tuesday through Friday

Josh Friedman


Josh is an educator, film-enthusiast, and lifelong Mets fan. This is his 7th year with MRASP, and 10th year working with students in Newton. 


Carra Dewing

K-1 Program Coordinator

Carra is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist who was born and raised in northern Virginia. This is her second year working as a program coordinator in the Octagon. 


Paul Kielb

4th Grade Program Coordinator

Paul was born and raised in Boston. He is a big time Patriots and Celtics fan. He enjoys watching sports as well as playing them.  This is his 6th year at MRASP and first year as the 4th grade program coordinator. 


Courtney Keilty

Assistant Director

Courtney likes cooking, dance parties, and project based learning. She has been a part of after school programming in Brookline, Boston, and Lowell over the last ten years. Courtney is looking forward to working on more community based activities and sharing her love of art with the kids at MRASP.


Tyler Leach

2-3 Program Coordinator

Tyler loves cats. He also enjoys taking part in outdoor activities such as kayaking and biking as well as playing pool and wearing tie-dye. This is his 3rd year at MRASP and 4th year in the Newton school system.

Jonathan Kilchherr

Hut Senior Coordinator

Jonathan has worked at MRASP for the last 20 years. He started his work with kids through the YMCA after school in Vermont. Jonathan enjoys playing guitar and building model airplanes during his free time.
